ABOUT THE SAN DIEGO FIRE RESCUE FOUNDATION
Who We Are
Founded in 2006 by former firefighters and community leaders, the San Diego Fire Rescue Foundation is a 501(c)(3) public charity based in San Diego, Calif. The Fire Rescue Foundation provides our first responders with the necessary funding to purchase critically needed equipment, technology, and training required to keep the property and citizens of San Diego and the surrounding region safe from the ravages of fire, natural disasters, and unforeseen injuries and illness. Tax-deductible donations to the Fire Rescue Foundation directly support the City of San Diego’s fire, lifeguard, and emergency medical services.
The goal of the Fire Rescue Foundation is to support the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department in its efforts to provide an enhanced level of service to the community by helping to supply the highest level of technology, equipment, tools and training that would not otherwise be made available to them through the City’s budget process.
Your philanthropic investment in our Fire Rescue Foundation, helps our first responders to continue to serve our community to the best of their abilities. Whether it’s a fire, a child missing in the surf, a victim trapped in a car during a flash flood, or an unconscious family member, these incidents require skillfully choreographed actions, training, and knowledge by our first responders.
How We Work
The San Diego Fire Rescue Foundation works closely with the Fire-Rescue Department to identify tools, equipment, and technology that have already been researched and approved by the Department. Even though these types of items have been deemed as appropriate and effective, the City of San Diego is unable to fund them because these are usually considered an enhancement of service. Unfortunately, the City is typically unable to offer any enhancements of service or improvements to existing technology due to budgetary constraints.
The Fire Rescue Foundation seeks to rectify these budget constraints by providing the means to introduce and/or improve tools, equipment, and technology that will enable our fire fighters, lifeguards and paramedics to perform their tasks more safely, effectively, and efficiently to the benefit of our San Diego community.
